Last term of school and why we did nothing our last week of school.

With this being our last school term in Queensland I had big plans. Mr 14 worked hard on his last units of the year in all his subjects and he did very well. But, I have finished the year with a couple of things left unfinished and will need to catch up.

Term 4 has been a very productive term for Mr 14 and I and we have managed to get a lot accomplished. For the past 2 weeks I have spent a fair bit of  time tying up loose ends because a goal of mine was to get a jump start on Mr 14's portfolio. So, I looked through the past year of Mr 14's work before I began putting his first homeschool portfolio together. This is what I will be giving to the HEU co ordinator when we do our first in home assessment next year.

I have been feeling nervous about our home school assessment because I have never had one before. I hope I get the thumbs up, because we plan on doing another year with Mr 14 next year. If you have any advice or tips on portfolios, I would really appreciate your help and love to hear from you in the comments below.

We did nothing our last week of school and this is why.

Last week there was a  free local event for children at our local park. We had a great time. Miss 5 and I took our time at all the activity tables, while the two boys played close by. Then as we were perusing the tables we met up with a dear friend of mine and she had just recovered from a bad case of chicken pox. I didn't feel I had anything to worry about because everyone in the family but Miss 5 and I have had chicken pox before and both her and I have been immunised.

Saturday morning

On Saturday morning I woke up with a overwhelming feeling of being unwell and Miss 5 was covered head to toe with a rash. Our last week of term was put to a complete stop. Miss 5 and I were hit with chickenpox.

Miss 5 was so strong. She had a rash all over her body. She was itchy, sleepy and had a slight temp but by day 3, she was trying to run around and saying she was better.

I on the other hand, experienced side effects of an extremely high fever causing me to be very, very ill over the first 3 days. I couldn't eat, or move without getting dizzy and nearly fainting, not to mention I was sore and incredibly itchy. Saturday was also the day D was meant to leave for WA for work and he was to stay there for 10 days. But, after seeing the condition I was in, he wasn't going anywhere. He stayed home and took care of us until we were feeling better.

I swear chicken pox in adulthood is the most horrible illness I have ever experienced so far. Day 5 of me having chicken pox and I still feel terrible. On the upside I have been blessed to have such a great man and children who have been so helpful and taken such great care of me while I have been ill and I can honestly say all I did was lie around the house and watch TV for the better part of the week. I didn't have the strength for much more.

I do hope you had a better end of the school year than we did. Until my next post, I wish you a great week.
